A detailed list of the final verdicts and sentences from the Dorchester Assize as given by Lord Chief Justice Jeffreys on behalf of King James II
My lord,
After consultation with the King himself, Lord Chief Justice Jeffreys has issued the sentences for the 359 men and 2 women convicted at the Dorchester Assize.
13 have already been Executed here in Dorchester on the 7 September
12 shall be executed in Lyme on the 12 September
9 shall be executed in Bridport on the 12 September
12 shall be executed in Sherborne on the 15 September
12 shall be executed in Weymouth & Melcombe Regis on the 15 September
11 shall be executed in Poole on the 21 September
5 shall be executed in Wareham on the 22 September
94 sold to Sir W. Booth for transportation to Barbados
60 sold to Jerome Nipho, the Queens secretary, for transportation
46 sold to Sir Christopher Musgrave for transportation to Jamaica
1 shall be whipped through the streets of Dorchester
1 woman shall be whipped in every market town of Dorset
1 shall be imprisoned for 7 seven year and whipped every year through all the market towns of Dorset
27 are discharged on production of the General Pardon
28 are offered for the Kings pardon
14 have been discharged
15 still await the King’s justice and shall be carried to Exeter
Mr Ketch and Pascha Rose will profit from the remaining 61 men to be quartered across the county. Whilst the King himself will gain from the payment against the 200 souls to be transported as indentured servants. These men are little more than Galley Slaves going into Caesars service.
