Now we engage the enemy in a firefight at close range. Our light cannon are firing canister into the opposing ranks and this must be doing terrible damage to them. The Foot Guards are loading and firing as fast as the can, simply in the direction of the enemy volleys. This fight is as hot as any I have ever witnessed yet it continues. Now the enemy has brought up cannon, the noise of shot is interspersed with the louder raw of the canister smashing into our men. This is starting to impact on our line as large holes are ripped through our files. It is hard to tell how long this firefight has lasted but I have shot near to 15 cartridges and now run short. The enemy are now firing more volleys than we can return, yet the men are standing strong. The officers have slowed down our range of fire and increasingly look behind for his Majesty and the Reserves.
